We've all had it happen to us. That feeling of being put down by another person, whether it's with a coworker, sales person, Internet trolls, or even your own friends or family. That overwhelming under-appreciation of you. That sudden anger that springs upon you when you have been underestimated in any particular manner of life.
It happens to everyone when really, it shouldn't.
Underestimation leads to bitterness and contempt. However, I absolutely love it when people underestimate me with something that I carry full confidence. The look on their face when I have bested them. A secret joy in my life.
But that's not the point.
Underestimating people can lead to hurt feelings. Just because a coworker does not have a college education does not mean you should negate anything they say. Many early Americans couldn't afford to leave the farm in order to attend school. However, they were still intelligent. Think about that the next time you try to belittle someone.
You never know when they might become an expert witness in a murder trial. (If you don't understand this reference, go watch "My Cousin Vinny")
